Intra-Company Transferee

Also called: ICT

A work permit category letting a multinational move certain staff to a related Canadian entity without an LMIA.

It generally applies to executives, senior managers and workers with specialised knowledge, and requires a qualifying relationship between the foreign and Canadian entities plus a period of prior employment abroad.

Why it matters: for companies opening a Canadian office it is often the fastest route to placing key staff, since it avoids LMIA processing.
